{"id":145,"date":"2019-03-13T18:38:13","date_gmt":"2019-03-13T18:38:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/virtuality.pt\/?p=145"},"modified":"2023-12-05T08:34:17","modified_gmt":"2023-12-05T08:34:17","slug":"useful-links","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/virtuality.pt\/?p=145","title":{"rendered":"Useful links"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>When I&#8217;m doing technical sessions with customers\/partners or speaking in events, most questions made are about information for projects, architectures, new features, new products but sometimes people tend to ask questions to late without checking VMware official documentation available online that cloud easily  helped them in planing, designs and troubleshooting, mitigate or solve small errors done in architectures and implementations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of these link&#8217;s are for new comers, some are not..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My intention on this post is to reach out and advice new professionals or people interested in this type of information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> <br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vmware.com\/resources\/compatibility\/search.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">VMware Compatibility Guide<\/a> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This site is mandatory to check supported Hardware, drivers, devices and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the information It&#8217;s not on this site, check  with VMware support but there is a great chance that what you want it&#8217;s not supported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Small example:  All CPU&#8217;s supported on ESXi 6.7U1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In my opinion it&#8217;s mandatory when planing upgrades to check if the hardware is supported in the newer versions or what are the recommended firmware\/drivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Always check the complete hardware, sometimes changes are made in servers, where old hardware is installed like FC adapters or network interface cards, that are not supported or even storage controllers always check the full hardware.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This information looks obvious, unfortunately it&#8217;s not. When you configure, deploy and operate your virtual and physical equipment, it is highly recommended you stay at or below the maximums supported by your product. I&#8217;ve seen  cluster&#8217;s with massive storage workloads with the CPU of the hosts set to low power consumption. It&#8217;s true that most server firmware images already fix that \ud83d\ude42 but it&#8217;s our job as IT professionals to check in detail this recommendations and other&#8217;s that we learn over the years \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" vSAN Planning and Deployment  (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.vmware.com\/en\/VMware-vSphere\/6.7\/vsan-671-planning-deployment-guide.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"> vSAN Planning and Deployment <\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Also seen some configurations in vSAN that are not recommended.
